Designing Your Custom POP Display

7 Things to Consider When Designing Your Custom POP Display. Point of purchase displays are more than just another merchandising opportunity. They’re an opportunity to optimize the customer experience and create memorable retail moments. There’s incredible potential in the POP retail space, and how you use it can directly impact the lasting impression your customers are leaving with when they walk out the door.

Maybe you already know that this is one of the most important retail areas in your location but aren’t sure how to get the most out of it. The good news is it really isn’t that difficult. It’s all about keeping the customer in mind through the design and merchandising process.

Here’s seven tips to get you started.

Incorporate Brand Awareness

This isn’t the spot to throw in random merchandise in hopes of a few impulse sales. Creating a brand presence is important here because it’s the one spot in your store that every paying customer visits before they leave.

When designing your retail POP displays, consider your brand image and merchandise. What type of display is going to best convey your brand message and showcase the merchandise that will make your brand more memorable?

Customer Habits

Point of purchase displays are notorious for holding merchandise that make great last-minute add-ons. But, you should consider what that means to your customer. For example, if you’re a C-store that caters to travelers, you’ll want a POP display to hold maps and other travel accessories.

Material that Stands Out

POP displays need to capture your customer’s attention, so a visual wow factor is a must. This doesn’t mean bright lights and obnoxious colors, but you do want it to offer a pleasant visual contrast to the rest of the retail area. For example, a nice wood finish would stand out against a dark counter space.

Be Realistic About Space

If you’re redesigning your POP space and are considering new fixtures, be realistic about the space you have. It might be possible to fit larger fixtures in the space, but you don’t want to completely overwhelm the environment. Choose displays that fit naturally into the space you have and complement the design of your retail location.

High Quality Always Wins

The point of purchase area is one of the most heavily trafficked in your store. It’s worth it to pay a little extra for high quality materials that are going to stand up against above average wear and tear. This isn’t the place to cut corners with materials.

Make it Easy for Customers

Consider display designs that make it easy for customers to shop. Displays that make the customer reach too high or crouch low, aren’t doing anything to provide ease or comfort. Displays that promote merchandise at eye level or provide for an easy reach and grab are customer friendly, especially in an area where they’re expecting a speedy checkout.

The Intention Is Obvious

Nothing looks worse than a POP display that’s thrown together without a second thought. Choose display designs that you know will be easy to effectively merchandise and  look great holding the products you’re promoting.
