The Tooling Technician is responsible for the maintenance, repair, revision, and polishing of all injection molds used in the production process. This includes both in-house and vendor-completed tooling work. The technician plays a vital role in supporting production through timely mold changes, tool improvements, and troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and provide design feedback for all new injection mold tool builds
  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on all in-house injection tooling
  • Select and coordinate with external vendors for tooling repair and modification
  • Obtain quotes for in-house and outsourced tooling repairs or revisions
  • Perform insert changes and adjustments for molds as needed
  • Inspect and approve all completed vendor tooling work before processing payments
  • Assist the maintenance team with precision machining projects as necessary
  • Maintain accurate records of tooling expenses, repairs, and revisions
  • Polish or inspect molds while they are in the press, as needed
  • Troubleshoot tooling issues and direct repair efforts accordingly
  • Support machine/tool troubleshooting during production as needed

Required Education & Experience

  • Associate’s degree in a technical field or completion of a tooling/mold-making apprenticeship (or equivalent experience)
  • 3–5 years of experience in injection mold maintenance or related tooling field

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Strong ability to diagnose and resolve mold-related problems
  • Proficiency in using manual mills, grinders, cut-off saws, and other precision tools
  • Familiar with mold insert changes and general injection mold operations
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Able to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday
  • Must have dexterity to use hand tools and equipment for assembly and repair work
  • High attention to detail and ability to work independently
  • Excellent organizational and documentation skills
